1. Definition 'Cookie'
A cookie is a small text file that is placed on your computer, smartphone or tablet via your web browser. Cookies are copied to the hard drive of the device when you visit our website, so that our system (among other things) can recognize you on your next visit and we can improve your use of the website.
Unless the browser settings have been adjusted to refuse cookies, our system will place cookies as soon as you visit our website (but not necessarily activate them).
2. Types of cookies
Cookies can be subdivided according to their origin, their function and their lifespan.
Origin
Own cookies are cookies placed by the owner of the visited website.
Third party cookies are cookies that are placed by an organization other than the owner of the website you visit. For example, cookies that are created by a company that specialises in analysing websites and, to the owner of the website, provides data about the frequency of visitors to the site.
Below is a list of the parties with whom we collaborate:
Function
Functional cookies are cookies that ensure that the website functions properly (e.g. log-in or registration cookies, language preferences). Functional cookies are mostly proprietary cookies.
Non-functional cookies are cookies that can be placed for statistical, social, targeting and commercial purposes. They have nothing to do with the purely technical support of the website. For example, cookies with static purposes allow you to check which pages of the website you are visiting. Cookies with social purposes make it possible for the user to share the content of the visited website directly with others via social media. Cookies with targeting purposes allow you to build a profile based on your surfing behavior so that the ads displayed are tailored to your interests. Cookies with commercial purposes keep track of how many and which advertisements were shown to a user. Non-functional cookies are often third party cookies.
Lifespan
Persistent cookies are cookies that remain on the user's device for the duration determined in the cookie and therefore also after the browser has closed. They are activated each time the user visits the website that placed this cookie (e.g. cookies placed by social media such as Twitter, Facebook, Google Analytics, etc.). Most non-functional cookies are permanent cookies.
Session cookies are cookies that allow us to simplify and link a user's actions during a browser session. A browser session begins when a user opens the browser window and ends when the browser window closes. Session cookies are placed temporarily. As soon as you close the browser, all session cookies are deleted. Most functional cookies are session cookies.
